Principal Investigator
Daniel Huddleston, MD
Dr. Huddleston is Assistant Professor of Neurology at Emory University, School of Medicine, since 2016. As a physician-scientist, he sees patients in the Emory Movement Disorders Clinic and conducts translational MRI research for neurodegenerative diseases. He received his medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, in 2006. He continued his training with a residency in neurology at Columbia’s Neurological Institute of New York, followed by a fellowship in movement disorders neurology at the Emory University Movement Disorders Clinic.
Dr. Huddleston’s current research involves the development and application of MRI methods to study Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. He uses novel neuromelanin-sensitive and multicontrast MRI approaches to study neurodegeneration in the substantia nigra and the locus coeruleus. Overall, his goal is to synthesize these innovative imaging methods with clinical and molecular data using machine learning to develop multimodal disease signatures for clinical and translational applications. Funding from the NIH, private foundations and private donors have supported his work. Dr. Huddleston is the Emory site principal investigator for 2 national consortia, one being the Emory Lewy Body Dementia Association Research Center of Excellence, and the other being the North American Prodromal Synucleinopathy Consortium. In 2018, he received the Young Faculty Award at the AAT-AD/PD Annual Meeting in Torino, Italy.
